The 1934 Mercury Dime

The Mercury Dime was first introduced in the early 20th century, and is now extremely popular amongst collectors. The New Dime

Due to a misinterpreted act of Congress, the Treasury and the U.S. Mint thought they were required to produce a new coin design every twenty-five years, which brought about a contest to decide the redesign of the dime. After many submissions, sculptor Adolph Weinman’s design was ultimately selected due to its classic design that carried on the legacy of Liberty on the dime. At the time of its release, it was thought to be one of the most beautiful coins produced by the U.S. Mint, and was extremely popular among collectors at the time.
