1930 Mercury Dime
The 1930 Mercury Dime had a total mintage of over 6.7 million coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This was a very small mintage for the Philadelphia Mint compared to previous dimes issued here. Even so, it can be found in some of the highest Mint State grades for relatively affordable prices, although still a small premium for some. This is a worthwhile coin to find as it can be found at reasonable prices while still being a well-struck and beautiful specimen.
History of the 1930 Mercury Dime
Cherrypicking is advised where possible when seeking a 1930 Mercury Dime, although it shouldn’t be too difficult to find an attractive coin. The Philadelphia Mint was known for its excellent craftsmanship and this coin benefits from that skill. The Mercury Head Dime was designed by Adolph Weinman. The reverse of the coin features a fasces which is a bundle of rods with a protruding ax blade. It is wrapped in bands and an olive branch. The obverse of the coin features a young Lady Liberty wearing a winged thinking cap representing “liberty of thought.”
1930 Mercury Dime Value
The 1930 Mercury Dime value ranges from around $1,700 to almost $12,000 for the highest Mint State grades and in Full Band versions. This is a steal of a deal for such a beautiful coin with a lower mintage and is worth the effort to locate. The 1930 Mercury Dime would add beauty and value to any Mercury Dime collection.
