1928-S Wheat Penny

1928-S Wheat Penny

The 1928-S Wheat Penny had a total mintage of over 17 million coins produced at the San Francisco Mint. San Francisco minted coins were often more sought after, possibly because of that S-mint mark, but also because the total mintages were frequently much smaller than that of the Denver or Philadelphia Mint. The 1928-S Wheat Penny, in particular, is a key date within the series. It is one of the most difficult to find in higher Mint State in the brown variety, and more unusually, it is easier to find in higher Mint State in the red varieties.

History of the 1928-S Wheat Penny

It is one of the rarities in the series that is common to find in higher grade full red condition, as opposed to being harder to find with more red. It is typically well-struck, has excellent eye appeal, sharp details, and original clean surfaces, which isn’t always a common occurrence for the coins in the series.
