1927 Peace Dollar

1927 Peace Dollar

In 1927, the Philadelphia mint struck under a million Peace dollars, less than 10% of the amount they had struck just a few years before in 1924. Due to this being the second lowest mintage in the Peace dollar series, the 1927 Peace Dollar is a very desirable adage to any collection. However, it can be difficult to find a 1927 Peace silver dollar in great condition.

The 1927 Peace dollar is the third rarest Peace dollar in Mint state. The strike is often good with strong luster, however bag marks often affect the quality and overall eye appeal.

History of the 1927 Peace Dollar

Due to the low mintage, there wasn’t much recorded in regards to the release of bags of the 1927 Peace dollar. Previous years were well documented, but this Peace dollar was elusive from the start.

It’s thought that during the 1970s, many Peace dollars that were circulating were then melted down in a bid to take over the silver bullion market by the Hunt brothers. Nowadays, the 1927 Peace dollar is a well sought after coin and would be a stunning addition to any serious collection.
