1921-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar

The 1921-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar has the lowest mintage of all coins in the Walking Liberty series. Adolph Weinman designed this coin and the dime as well. He earned the design commission by winning a competition held by the Commission of Fine Arts. This was not the initial design for the coin and other of Weinman’s designs were rejected before this design was finally approved. The coin bears the “D” mint mark under the words “In God We Trust” on the obverse of the coin. The luster is ranges from satiny white to frosty. The color ranges from full white to deeply toned.

A mint condition 1921-D Walking Liberty silver half dollar is the third rarest in the series and is generally well struck. When this coin was first issued, coin enthusiasts added it to their collection, and this is the source of most remaining Gem quality coins.

The rarity of this coin in good condition makes this year a key date for the coin series.
