The 1920-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar was struck by the Denver mint in 1920 and like all the Walking Liberty silver half dollar coins issued by the Denver mint, it carries the distinctive “D” mint mark under the words “In God We Trust” on the obverse of the coin. Adolph Weinman designed this coin as well as the dime. The commission was granted when he won a competition held by the Commission of Fine Arts. This was not the initial design and other designs were rejected before this design was approved. The luster is frosty to satiny.
1920-D Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar Value and Scarcity
The 1920-D Walking Liberty half dollar value carries a greater value in the higher grades because it is a scarce coin. In mint condition the 1920-D Walking Liberty silver half dollar is a very rare coin. The 1920-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar can range from $18 in lower circulated grade to upwards of $3000 in higher uncirculated grades
The higher condition circulated coins were the result of many private collectors adding the new coin to their collection. This is common for newly released coins because even casual coin collectors will add a new issue to their collection. Because of the relatively high face value of the 1920 Walking Liberty half dollar, a lower number of the new coins was initially saved so this is a key date for uncirculated Walking Liberty half dollar key dates.
