1913-S Barber Dime

1913-S Barber Dime

The 1913-S Barber Dime had a tiny mintage of just 510,000 coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. This was much smaller than the almost 20 million issued from the Philadelphia Mint this same year. This coin has the second smallest mintage out of the entire series and is therefore a popular one among collectors. Even so, these coins can be found for a small premium, less than some of the others in the series. When coins had a smaller mintage, they were often saved by collectors upon release. This appears to be the case with the 1913-S Barber Dime because it is difficult to find in circulated grades, but relatively easy to locate Mint State examples.

History of the 1913-S Barber Dime

The 1913-S Barber Dime is a popular coin that is well worth the effort to find with a sharp strike and attractive surfaces. The majority of the Mint State coins fall between MS63 and MS65. Any grades higher are considered a rarity. Charles Barber designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.

1913-S Barber Dime Value

The 1913-S Barber Dime value reaches upwards of just under $11,000 for the highest grades of the coin reported. This is an excellent value for a coin with such a low mintage. The 1913-S Barber Dime is a beautiful coin that is worth seeking out to add to any Barber Dime series collection, and at relatively affordable prices too.
