1913 Indian Head Gold Coin

1913 Indian Head Gold Coin

The 1913 Indian Head Gold Coin had a total mintage of 722,000 coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. It is another one within the series, like the 1912 Indian Head Gold Coin, that is underappreciated for its rarity, especially in gem conditions above Mint State 65. A few examples of the 1913 Indian Head Quarter Eagle exist in Mint State 67, but haven’t exchanged hands in quite some years.

History of the 1913 Indian Head Quarter Eagle

The 1913 Indian Head Quarter Eagle is worth cherrypicking to find a coin that is sharply struck with attractive surfaces. This coin is generally well-struck with an above average luster. The surfaces of the coin are somewhat granular, which is common for all of the coins in the series, and the coloring is beautiful with a light to medium yellow gold. The Indian Head Gold Coin was designed by Bela Lyon Pratt. The obverse features the profile of the head of a Native American wearing a headdress. He is surrounded by thirteen stars to represent the thirteen colonies. The reverse features a standing eagle.

1913 Indian Head Gold Coin Value

The 1913 Indian Head Gold Coin value reaches upwards of $28,000 for the highest grades of the coin available, typically around Mint State 66. As the price of gold continues to rise, the value of these coins will as well. The 1913 Indian Head Gold Coin would make a valuable addition to this gold coin series, especially when it is found with a sharp strike and great overall eye appeal.
