History of the 1910-S Wheat Penny

The 1910-S Wheat Penny was a more scarce coin, in circulated and higher uncirculated grades. You would have to go all the way up to the 1930 Lincoln Cent to find an S-mint coin that is easier to find in Gem condition, even though both are relatively hard to find. The 1910-S Wheat Penny was designed by Victor David Brenner. At the time, President Theodore Roosevelt wanted to prepare new coin designs that had more artistic merit. He chose Brenner based on a plaque he created with Lincoln’s profile. The Wheat Penny depicts a bust and profile of Abraham Lincoln on the obverse, with the S mintmark under the date. The reverse features two stalks of durum wheat.
