1909-S Barber Dime
The 1909-S Barber Dime had a total mintage of exactly 1 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. This coin is one of the most valuable out of the four issues in 1909, but only by a small margin, closely followed by the 1909-D Barber Dime. It is possible to find the 1909-S Barber Dime in circulated and uncirculated Mint State grades, but they tend to cap out MS64. As this coin moves into grades higher than this, it becomes exceedingly rare, but is still possible to find them.
History of the 1909-S Barber Dime
The 1909-S Barber Dime had a relatively small mintage compared to many of the coin issues in the series. Cherrypicking is advised where possible because the details can appear mushy, so look for a coin with a sharp strike. Charles Barber designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
1909-S Barber Dime Value
The 1909-S Barber Dime value reaches upwards of $24,000 which was documented on a MS66 grade coin that was sold. The value of this coin will increase the higher the grade, but it’s possible to build a Barber Dime collection for more affordable prices by searching for circulated and lower Mint State grade coins. The 1909-S Barber Dime would make a valuable addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
