1906-S Barber Dime

1906-S Barber Dime

The 1906-S Barber Dime had a total mintage of over 3 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. This date is semi-scarce and commands a premium for some of the highest grades available, a larger premium than any of the other coins issued in this year. Although this coin is semi-scarce, there shouldn’t be any issue finding this coin in Mint State condition, with many gorgeously toned examples available for the choosy collector.

History of the 1906-S Barber Dime

The 1906-S Barber Dime is a beautiful coin that is typically well-struck and beautifully toned. This makes cherrypicking a fun experience where strike isn’t the worry, but finding a coin that has the most appealing surfaces. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.

1906-S Barber Dime Value

The 1906-S Barber Dime value reaches upwards of $20,000 for some of the highest grades available, which usually maxes out around MS67 for this coin. It is worth the effort to seek out this beautiful coin, finding one with a strong strike and nice toning. There were four coins struck in 1906, and this one commands the highest prices. The 1906-S Barber Dime would make a great addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
