The history behind Morgan Silver Dollars dates back 142 years ago when they were first produced in 1878. The series produced coins consecutively but after 1904 there was a brief hiatus until 1921 when the silver shortage that caused the hiatus was resolved. 1921 was also an unique year because that was the only time the Denver Mint struck Morgan Silver Dollars and that was the very same year in which the Peace Silver Dollar series had begun. George T. Morgan designed the coin, and this was evidently his greatest of a total 7 coin designs he made. His career began as an assistant in the U.S. Mint and ended with him becoming the chief engraver in the U.S. Mint. A name that will never be forgotten, George’s genius is praised even to this day, by the numismatic community for his unprecedented success with the Silver Dollar that stunned everyone, especially when it was announced that a regular school teacher by the name of Anna Williams would be modeling as Lady Liberty. The 1902-S Morgan Silver Dollar had a mintage 1,530,000 which was far lower than the 1902 Philadelphia and New Orleans counterparts, which had mintages of 7,994,000 & 8,636,000 in that respective order. The lower quantity which was minted is the reason why less of this coin are available in circulation, and makes them more expensive to acquire. We have the 1902-S Morgan Silver Dollar in brilliant uncirculated condition available for $574, which includes shipping and handling as well!
