1902-S Barber Dime
The 1902-S Barber Dime had a total mintage of just over 2 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. This was a much larger mintage than the previous year that was just over 500,000. This coin features the ‘S’ mint mark that can be found on the bottom of the reverse of the coin. San Francisco and New Orleans minted coins were more sought after than some of the others in the series, and usually commanded higher prices.
History of the 1902-S Barber Dime
The 1902-S Barber Dime is relatively easy to find in some of the higher Mint State grades, although it’s rare to find one above MS67. This coin is typically well-struck with a brilliant to frosty luster. Some examples have toned nicely and are worth the effort to find. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
1902-S Barber Dime Value
The 1902-S Barber Dime value reaches upwards of $21,000 for the highest grades of the coin available. More affordable prices can be found in circulated and lower Mint State grades, while prices tend to jump the higher the grade goes. The 1902-S Barber Dime would make a valuable and excellent addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
