The 1989-W $50 American Gold Eagle had a small mintage of just over 54,000 for this Proof coin struck at the West Point Mint. It features the “W” mint mark that is shown on Proof coins in the series, while the uncirculated, regular strike coins at the Philadelphia Mint had no mint mark. The 1989-W $50 American Gold Eagle is possible to find in Mint State, but can be difficult to obtain in a perfect Proof 70.
