The Morgan Silver Dollar was still going through refinements when it was first released in 1878. Its first year of issue was full of design changes on the reverse in particular. This 1878 Morgan features the '7TF Reverse of 1879,' the final iteration that stuck with the Morgan Dollar for the rest of the series. The first reverse design '8-Tailfeather' would only be struck for a few weeks before changing to a '7-Tailfeather' reverse. The first of these changes resulted in two new dollars, '7-Tailfeather' and '7/8 Tailfeather', the latter a result of impressions of the master die beneath the seven tailfeathers. This final version is identifiable by the eagle's rounded breast and the detailed arrows clutched in its talons.
This is the final design that would be seen on the rest of the coins in the Morgan Silver Dollar series. Now you can collect this incredible nearly 150 year old 90% silver Morgan Dollar for an incredible price certified Genuine by NGC!
