1873 Penny Design Highlights:
Very few of the 1873 Indian Head Cents survived to today due to the heavy circulation. Those that did survive are often found in poor condition, but still highly desired by any collector. The 1873 Indian Head Penny is one of the first versions of the coin produced with a 95% copper alloy. Another thing that separates the 1873 Indian Head from most other editions is that the number “3” on the coin’s date appears one of two ways. On some coins, the three is just a few millimeters away from being completely closed while the other versions boast a more open “3.” Depending on what coin you have, the value will vary depending on what type of “3” is present.
