The series officially concluded in 2025, marking the END of their production!
Following a directive from President Trump and the U.S. Treasury's announcement in May 2025, the U.S. Mint placed its final order for penny blanks, with production projected to cease by early 2026. Regardless of its future, the U.S. cent from 1909 to 2025 tells a compelling story of American coinage, adapting through wars, economic shifts, and evolving national identity.
The United States one-cent coin, commonly known as the penny, has undergone significant transformations from 1909 to the present day, reflecting changes in American history, technology, and economic conditions. The year 1909 marked a pivotal moment with the introduction of the Lincoln Cent, replacing the Indian Head Cent. Designed by Victor David Brenner, the obverse featured a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, commemorating the 100th anniversary of his birth. This was the first time a real person, rather than an allegorical figure, appeared on a circulating U.S. coin. The initial reverse design featured two wheat stalks, giving rise to the popular "Wheat Penny" nickname.
From the very first 1909 Wheat Ears penny to the modern 2025 Union Shield design, this set brings together key examples of every major Lincoln cent style, composition, and portrait change housed in a premium, full-color educational display folder.
