2022 Silver Best Selling Coins

2022 Silver Eagle

A new year means a new range of silver bullion coins, which the United States Mint traditionally launches in early January. On January 3, 2022, Authorized Purchasers will be able to place orders for 2022-dated American Silver Eagles that will again sport the new reverse design with a flying eagle launched last year and a refreshed obverse.

Collectors can pre-order the new coins now, including raw and graded examples with a wide variety of labelsRolls of 20 mint state coins can also be pre-ordered.

In November after it wrapped up production of the 2021 coins and geared up to start striking the 2022 issues, the Mint announced the mintage of 2021 Silver Eagle bullion coins broken down by the Mint that produced them.

Production of these coins in recent years has occurred not just at the West Point Mint that traditionally strikes bullion coins, but also at the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints. That was especially important in years like 2021 when demand for the coins was especially high and because of covid-19 production at each facility was slower than normal due to security procedures to protect employees.

Here are the 2021 mintages:

The West Point Mint struck 11,811,000 coins bearing the Reverse of 1986 design and 13,968,500 bearing the Reverse of 2021 design.

The San Francisco Mint produced 1 million of each type of 2021 Silver Eagles, and the Philadelphia Mint only struck 495,500 of the Reverse of 1986 coins and none with the new design.

As for the collector versions, the uncirculated burnished coin struck at the West Point Mint is expected during the spring; the Proof coin struck at San Francisco is anticipated for the summer; and the Proof struck at West Point is currently listed as “to be determined”.

40th anniversary Silver Panda

Another major release each year is the Chinese Mint’s silver Panda coin produced as a popular 30-gram, 10-Yuan mint state coin and Proof in various sizes. Each year brings an entirely new reverse design on these coins which adds to their collectability. The giant Panda is China’s national animal.

This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the debut of this iconic series in 1982, when it became the first major, modern silver bullion coin from Asia and the first to sport new designs each year. A special privy mark has been added to this year’s design on two Pandas having fun as they slide down a hill covered in snow.

In addition, this is also the fourth year of the lifecycle series within the Panda series that began in 2019 and runs through 2028. The 2019 design showed a baby cub being held by its mother, while the 2020 coin featured a young cub munching on some bamboo shoots, and the 2021 issue showed a cub and mother playing in a tree.

In addition, this year the first-ever mint state platinum Panda will be issued struck in a 30 Yuan, 1-gram size that also features the 40th anniversary privy mark. Only 10,000 of these coins will be made with only 10% of them allocated for sale outside of China. They are struck at the Shenzhen Mint.

The 2022 silver Pandas have already been made and shipped from China to its distributors. You can now order examples graded MS70 by PCGS with special “First Day of Issue” labels.-

Australia 1 oz Silver Kangaroo Coin (Random Year)

2022 Silver Kangaroo

Another big seller in the world of silver bullion coins aimed at stackers and coin collectors is the Perth Mint’s silver Kangaroo coins – known in Australia as “roos” -- issued in 1-ounce size with an unlimited mintage and the same design of a bounding red Kangaroo against a dazzling zigzag pattern and sun rays each year.

That design previously appeared on large gold coins issued by the same mint and designed by legendary artist and coin designer Stuart Devlin.

When the coin was first introduced in 2015, its mintage was limited to 300,000 (with 50,000 of them reserved for sale in Australia) for that year only. However, the 2015 coin had some slight differences in the reverse design and its purity was 0.999. The Mint considers those coins “a limited forerunner” of the silver Kangaroo series with the first regular issues of the series issued from 2016.

Since then the coin has become one of the world’s best-selling silver bullion issues which sells for one of the lowest premiums over its metal content and is made of the highest purity on the market, 0.9999 fine!

For security, each coin has a tiny “A” micro-engraved on the first “A” in “Australian” on the reverse side.

You can buy examples in the top grade of MS70 now that were graded by NGC and feature the signature of ED Harbuz, former director of the Perth Mint.
