Leo IV "The Wise" was dubbed as such due to his prolific writings, which ranged from orations and poems to law codes. Most importantly, his imperial laws, which were written in Greek, became the legal code of the Byzantine Empire. His obsession with writing led to neglect of the empire's foreign policy during his reign.
This bronze follis is certified by NGC to be authentic, and is holdered with an NGC Ancients Corinthian Column label. As a nearly 1,200 year old bronze coin, Byzantine follis tend to be quite ugly due to wear and tear over the centuries. However, this bunch we acquired are in exceptional condition. The obverse portrait details are strong and the strike of the lettering is incredibly sharp. This fantastic ancient piece belongs in your collection!
