2014-W $50 Gold Buffalo Coin

2014-W $50 Gold Buffalo Coin

The 2014-W $50 Gold Buffalo coin had a total mintage of just over 20,000 coins struck at the West Point Mint. It’s possible to find this Proof coin in great quality condition all the way up to a perfect Proof 70. The 2014-W 1 oz Gold Buffalo also features the ‘W’ mint mark on the obverse of the coin behind the head of the Native American chief sketched on it. Designer, James Earle Fraser, sketched three different chiefs to come up with the profile design for the obverse of the coin. Although this Gold Buffalo has a smaller mintage, it’s possible to find at affordable prices.

History of the 2014-W 1 oz Gold Buffalo Coin

The 2014-W 1 oz Gold Buffalo coin typically comes in Proof grades 68 and 69, but can be found in PR70 with careful searching. It usually has great overall eye appeal in Deep Cameo condition. The reverse of the coin features a fully grown bison standing on a mound. It is a modification to the beloved designs of the Type 1 Indian Head Nickel and the design had stayed consistent from the release of the series all the way up to this point. Although the Proof 70 American Gold Buffalo is more difficult to find than some of the others, it’s still relatively easy to obtain for a small premium.

2014-W $50 Buffalo Gold Coin Value

The 2014-W $50 Buffalo Gold coin value reaches upwards of around $2,000 for the highest grades of the coin. Cherrypicking should be possible, even with the lower mintage, to ensure a sharply struck coin with attractive surfaces. The 2014-W 1 oz Gold Buffalo would make a valuable addition to any Gold Buffalo coin series collection.
