American Silver Eagle coins are named for the heraldic eagle first created by Robert Scot for U.S. coins in 1792. However, the coins also feature the illustrious Walking Liberty Half Dollar design made by Adolphe A. Weinman for coins of the same name first issued in 1916. The obverse side of the American Silver Eagle coins show Lady Liberty as she is walking with her arm stretched out toward the sun and horizon. She is carrying sprays of laurel and oak in her other arm. The term “Liberty” is engraved above her head and the year of minting is etched below her figure. The motto “In God We Trust” appears to her right.

The reverse side of the 2014-W American Silver Eagle Proof - NGC PF70 UCAM features a modern heraldic bald eagle that has been updated by the sculptor John Mercanti. There are 13 stars engraved above the eagle that represent America’s original 13 colonies.
