After 8 years, the US Mint decided to give a refresh to the Sacagawea Dollar coin in 2009. Now dubbed the Native American Dollar Coin Series, the obverse continues to feature a portrait of Sacagawea. She was an important figure in history, as a Native American woman from the Shoshone tribe that provided crucial guidance and led to the success of the Lewis & Clark Expedition in 1806. Her contributions to the success of Westward Expansion after the Louisiana Purchase led her to being remembered forever in American history.
The 2009 redesign changed the reverse design from an eagle to a Native American woman farming her land. Another major change to the coin was the addition of a lettered edge featuring the coin's date, mintmark, and "E Pluribus Unum". Now you can collect this remarkable coin as a trio of mintmarks and finishes. We have assembled this set of three 2009 Native American Dollars with both proof and uncirculated finishes and the P, D, and S mintmarks.
