2009 $50 Gold Buffalo Coin
The 2009 $50 Gold Buffalo had a total mintage of exactly 200,000 coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This uncirculated, 24 karat gold bullion coin doesn’t feature the P mint mark as is common with Proof and uncirculated, burnished coins. This is the fourth year that these 1 oz American Gold Buffalo coins were produced. Demand for this coin was high, and it was reported that the Mint couldn’t keep up with the demand, therefore cancelling its production at the end of the year. It’s possible to find the 2009 1 oz Gold Buffalo in perfect Mint State 70 grades.
History of the 2009 1 oz Gold Buffalo Coin

Many were produced this year compared to previous years and many of the future years so there are more to choose from all the way up to a perfect Mint State grade that commands a smaller premium than others in the series. James E. Fraser designed these beloved coins based off of modifications of the Indian Head Nickel Type 1 coins. This well-loved design features a Native American Chief on the obverse, and a full-sized bison, often called a buffalo, on the reverse.
