American Silver Eagle coins were initially struck at the San Francisco Mint. However, their production location changed in 1993 and moved to the Philidelphia Mint. This location changed again in 2001, and the American Silver Eagle is now struck at the West Point Mint. American Silver Eagle proof coins were struct regularly between 1986 and 2008, but there was a brief pause in their production. However, the West Point Mint resumed the production of these coins in 2010, and the American Silver Eagle is still struck today.
The obverse side of the coin was created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916 and features Lady Liberty walking with a radiant sun by her side. The reverse, designed by the sculptor and engraver John Mercanti, depicts 13 stars and a heraldic-style eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows.
