2003 American Silver Eagle

2003 American Silver Eagle

The American Silver Eagle had a total mintage of over 8.4 million coins from the Philadelphia Mint. This is a higher mintage compared to some of the previous years, and is relatively common and easy to find in many of the grades. As it reaches higher grades, like a Mint State of 69 and a perfect 70, it is more scarce due to blemishes and nicks. Although scarce in the highest grades, it’s not impossible to find with some careful searching.

History of the 2003 American Silver Eagle

The 2003 American Silver Eagle is typically a well-struck coin, but it can suffer from some nicks and abrasions due to handling and storage, but these are usually minor. The design on the reverse of the American Silver Eagle was inspired by the “Walking Liberty” design of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar that was designed by Adolph Weinman. It was one of the most beloved designs of all American coins and was revived for the American Silver Eagle coins. The reverse was designed by John Mercanti. It features the American Bald Eagle behind a shield. The eagle is holding arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Above the eagle are 13 five-pointed stars that represent the 13 original colonies.

2003 American Silver Eagle Value

The 2003 American Silver Eagle price can range from a couple hundred dollars to upwards of two thousand dollars and higher depending on the grade and quality of the coin. The American Silver Eagle series is a popular one among collectors. The 2003 American Silver Eagle is worth the effort to find, and would make a great addition to any Silver Eagle coin series collection.
