In the year 2000, the U.S. Mint rolled out its very first batch of Sacagawea Dollars. These replaced the unpopular Susan B. Anthony Dollar which had a 3-year run. The coin was part of the American Innovation $1 Coin Program, which aimed to honor notable figures in American history. Sacagawea was a Shoshone woman who played a key role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

The first year of issue of a coin series is always one of the best pieces to collect. This 2000-D Sacagawea Dollar not only marks the first year that the coin was produced, but it was included in the 2000 Millennium Set from the U.S. Mint. This special commemorative set was released to celebrate the beginning of the 21st century. The Millennium Coin & Currency Set included a 2000 Silver Eagle, the new 2000-D Sacagawea Dollar, and a 1999 $1 note with a serial number beginning with 2000-. Only 75,000 of these sets were made!

With a fantastic MS67 PL grade from NGC, this 2000-D Sacagawea Dollar has a surface that is unusually reflective, hence the proof-like designation. It also has a label hand-signed by John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint! He is a prolific numismatic designer, most famous for designing the Heraldic Eagle reverse of the Silver Eagle series. Since this is not just the first year of issue for the Sacagawea Dollar series, but a piece from a coveted turn-of-the-millennium mint set, every collector needs this rarity in their collection. This is an incredible piece of history to add to your collection at an irresistibly-affordable price.
