1991 American Silver Eagle
The 1991 American Silver Eagle had a total mintage of over 7 million coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This was a higher mintage than in previous years, but is still considered one of the scarcer issues in the entire series. This makes sense considered over 30 million were struck in some of the future uncirculated Silver Eagle coins.
History of the 1991 American Silver Eagle
The 1991 American Silver Eagle can often be found well-struck. Cherrypicking is advised though as many suffer from nicks and scratches from storage and handling that prevent the coin from reaching the highest grades in many examples. This coin is very rare in perfect condition. The design on the reverse of the American Silver Eagle was inspired by the “Walking Liberty” design of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar that was designed by Adolph Weinman. It was one of the most beloved designs of all American coins and was revived for the American Silver Eagle coins. The reverse was designed by John Mercanti. It features the American Bald Eagle behind a shield. The eagle is holding arrows and olive branch in its talons. Above the eagle are 13 five-pointed stars that represent the 13 original colonies.
1991 American Silver Eagle Value
The 1991 American Silver Eagle prices can reach upwards of $34,000 for perfect condition coins that have been found on the market. While these are major rarities and will command a premium, they are possible to come by every once in a while. The 1991 American Silver Eagle would make a great addition to any Silver Eagle coin series collection.
