1962-D Franklin Half Dollar

The 1962-D Franklin Half Dollar had a huge mintage of over 35 million coins struck at the Denver Mint. Due to the high number of coins created, the 1962-D Ben Franklin Half Dollar is relatively easy to find at affordable prices in most grades. Higher grades are known to be more scarce and harder to come by which would drive up the cost of the coin. 

 

History of the 1962-D Franklin Half Dollar

The 1962-D Franklin Half Dollar was designed by John R. Sinnock who was inspired by the sketches created by John Frederick Lewis. The obverse of the coin shows the profile of Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. The reverse of the coin shows the cracked Liberty Bell, as well as a smaller image of the American Bald Eagle which was required by law to be visible on this Half Dollar.

The 1962-D Franklin Half Dollar value ranges from below twenty dollars to the thousands of dollars depending on the grade and version. The Full Bell Line version of the Ben Franklin Half Dollar coins is believed to be a full strike which allows that version to command a higher price from collectors due to demand for a well-struck coin. The 1962-D Franklin Half Dollar would make a great addition to any Franklin Half Dollar series collection and is valuable due to being made up of 90% silver.
