History of the 1957-D Franklin Half Dollar
The 1957-D Franklin Half Dollar had just under 20 million total minted coins, which is quite a lot. It features a design created by John R. Sinnock and inspired by the sketches of John Frederick Lewis. The obverse of the coin has the profile of United States Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin. On the reverse, you’ll find the cracked Liberty Bell image front and center with a smaller image of the American Bald Eagle. It is believed that Ben Franklin wouldn’t have wanted the eagle on his commemorative coin because he was a practical man that would have preferred the wild turkey to be the national bird. It’s always advised to cherrypick with these coins to ensure you find the best one for your collection.
