History of the 1953-D Jefferson Nickel

The 1953-D Thomas Jefferson Nickel can require a good bit of cherrypicking to find the highest quality coins. Collections can come in all grades and price points though, and with the Jefferson Nickel, there is a little bit of something for everyone in every category. Felix Schlag designed the Jefferson Nickel which features a left-facing Thomas Jefferson on the obverse of the coin. The reverse showcases Jefferson’s Monticello home and also features the ‘D’ mint mark to the side of the structure. The Full Step variety typically demands a higher premium because the steps leading up to the Monticello are fully struck.
