1952-S Jefferson Nickel
The 1952-S Jefferson Nickel had a total mintage of over 20.5 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. This is a relatively higher mintage for this coin compared to some of the lowest mintages within the series. It’s worth the effort to locate this one well-struck and with great detailing and eye appeal. Although it’s possible to find this coin in some of the highest Mint State grades, up to about MS67 at a relatively affordable price, it can be very difficult to locate the 1952-S Jefferson Nickel with a Full Step designation above about Mint State 66. It’ll command a premium with the Full Step designation in most any grade due to its rarity.
History of the 1952-S Jefferson Nickel
The 1952-S Jefferson Nickel is a coin worth cherrypicking to find a sharply struck coin. Collectors can build a relatively affordable collection by seeking out circulated or lower Mint State coins. There’s a little bit of something for collectors of all types within this long-standing series that is still in production today. Felix Schlag is the designer of the Jefferson Nickel. The obverse of the coin features the profile of Thomas Jefferson. The reverse of the coin features the ‘S’ mint mark as well as Jefferson’s Monticello home.
1952-S Jefferson Nickel Value
The 1952-S Jefferson Nickel value ranges from less than one thousand dollars to upwards of a little under ten thousand dollars for the highest grades of the coin in Mint State and with the Full Step designation. The Full Steps are typically worth more, especially in issue dates like this one where they are difficult to find. The 1952-S Jefferson Nickel would make an excellent addition to any Jefferson Nickel series collection.
