1948 Franklin Half Dollar
The 1948 Franklin Half Dollar was minted at the Philadelphia Mint with a little over 3 million total mintage. The Franklin Half Dollar wasn’t exactly a popular series for collectors and the 1948 Ben Franklin Half Dollar isn’t high on the radar of numismatists. The 1948 Franklin Half Dollar was designed by John R. Sinnock, who designed the Roosevelt Dime, and also John Frederick Lewis.
History of the 1948 Franklin Half Dollar
The 1948 Franklin Half Dollar features a profile image of Ben Franklin with the words Liberty across the top and In God We Trust on the bottom rocker of the obverse. The Liberty Bell and the American Bald Eagle can be found on the reverse. This relatively compact and affordable coin is a great series to start collecting because the prices of the Franklin Half Dollar have remained low for the most part. The batches of these coins were usually on the smaller side when minting the Franklin Half Dollar, and they are relatively easy to find in most Mint State grades, although less so the higher the grade.
1948 Franklin Half Dollar Value
The 1948 Franklin Half Dollar value ranges from under a hundred dollars to upwards of ten thousand dollars. This “sleeper” coin, as it has been called due to its relative inactivity in price and value over the years, would make a great addition as the first in the Ben Franklin Half Dollar series.
