This 1947 S 50 Centavos Silver MS64 Doubled Die Obverse - Douglas MacArthur is a fascinating coin that highlights an important time in World War II history. In 1947, this 50 Centavos coin was struck in the Philippines to honor American General Douglas MacArthur, whose military prowess helped free the Philippines from Japanese occupation. The liberation was completed in July 1945, solidifying the connection between the United States and the Philippines as allies.

Struck in the post-WWII era, this 75% silver coin proudly features General MacArthur's portrait on the obverse, as well as the phrase "Defender and Liberator of the Philippines". The reverse of the coin features the coat of arms of the Philippines with flowers on either side. This coin in particular has an MS64 grade from NGC, and also has a doubled-die obverse variety. This occurs when the die hits the planchet multiple times but slightly offset, creating visible doubling in the design. Only 67 exist in this grade (as of 05/22/25), and only 62 have ever been graded finer by NGC. This 1947 S 50 Centavos Silver MS64 DDO is a fascinating piece of World War II history, highlighting the bond of allyship between the United States and the Philippines.
