1943-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar
The 1943-S Walking Liberty half dollar is not as rare as other 1940’s Walking Liberty coins coming from the San Francisco mint. Like so many of the San Francisco minted coins, strike is a real issue, especially with the left hand. Sometimes it looks like Ms Liberty doesn’t even have a left hand. Even so, it is still considered one of the loveliest circulating coins ever issued. The striking design was the work of Adolph Weinman. He earned the commission to design this coin by winning a Commission on Fine Arts competition. However, was not his original coin design. The 1943-S Walking Liberty can either have a frosty white luster or exhibit a degree of toning.
1943-S Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar Value, Scarcity, and Key Dates
The 1943-S Walking Liberty silver half dollar value starts at $9 for a coin in a low-grade circulated condition and increases to $42 for a coin in a higher-grade uncirculated condition. It is rarer than the 1945-S and 1946-S Walking Liberty silver half dollar coins. Because strike was such a problem with this coin, Gem condition coins with good strike are very rare indeed. Even if you find this coin in poor condition, the Walking Liberty half dollar value as a collectible coin is still more than the value of the silver used to make the coin. Walking Liberty half dollar key dates for the 1940 to 1947 set include this coin.
