1941-S Jefferson Nickel

1941-S Jefferson Nickel

The 1941-S Jefferson Nickel had a total mintage of over 43 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. They featured the popular ‘S’ mint mark on the reverse of the coin, to the right of the Monticello house. Up to about Mint State 66 without a fully struck Full Step distinction, the 1941-S Jefferson Nickel is relatively common and easy to find without paying any kind of premium. Higher than this grade and with the Full Step versions, it’s very difficult to find. In MS67, it is rare and believed that less than a dozen examples exist today.

History of the 1941-S Jefferson Nickel

Cherrypicking is advised with this 1941-S Jefferson Nickel beauty. It can be found fully struck with excellent detailing. It’s also relatively easy to find in circulated and lower Mint State grades at very low cost for those looking to fill out their collections on a budget. The obverse of the coin features a left-facing profile of Thomas Jefferson and the reverse showcases his Monticello plantation. Over the years, the design on this coin has changed somewhat, and it is still in production today. A design competition was held for the original Jefferson Nickel and Felix Schlag won the competition.

1941-S Jefferson Nickel Value
