1940-S Washington Quarter

The 1940-S Washington Quarter isn’t as popular and valuable as some of the other San Francisco Mint coins in the series, but it is still desirable. It had a little over 8.2 million total coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. The coins struck at the San Francisco Mint in the 1930s are Washington Quarter key dates to look out for. These coins were the rarest in the series and had some of the lowest mintages. This coin series was designed by John Flanagan. It marked the 200th anniversary of the first president of the United States, George Washington’s birthday.

The 1940-S Washington Quarter comes in a wide range of quality, and might not be as well-struck as the coins from the Philadelphia and Denver Mint, but it is possible to find nice ones. When searching for the 1940-S Silver Washington Quarter to add to your series collection, cherrypicking is advised. Although this coin isn’t as highly sought after, it is affordable and possible to find Gem quality with a nice frosty luster. The George Washington Quarters have a portrait of George Washington on the obverse of the coin. The reverse of the coin depicts an American Bald Eagle with its wings spread, and its standing over a bundle of arrows and olive branches.
