1932 Wheat Penny

The 1932 Wheat Penny had a total mintage of over 9 million coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Compared to some of the mintages at the Philadelphia Mint, this Lincoln Wheat Penny has a much smaller mintage. It appears that the brown variety of the highest grades of this coin are harder to come by. This could be due to strike, scarcity, or any other reason that has made it difficult to find. Lower grades of the brown coloring are very affordable, less than $200. Full reds seem a little more common in higher grades. 

 

History of the 1932 Wheat Penny

The 1932 Wheat Penny isn’t exactly a highly sought after coin in the series, but it is a great one to add to your collection at affordable prices. When looking for this coin, look for a sharp strike and attractive surfaces. The Wheat Penny was designed by Victor David Brenner. At the time, President Theodore Roosevelt wanted to prepare new coin designs that had more artistic merit. He chose Brenner based on a plaque he created with Lincoln’s profile. The Wheat Penny depicts a bust and profile of Abraham Lincoln on the obverse. The reverse features two stalks of durum wheat.

 

1932 Wheat Penny Worth

The 1932 Wheat Penny is a very affordable coin within the Lincoln Cent series. You can find a mid-grade Mint State coin for less than $200, while higher Mint State red varieties will top out around $9,000. Cherrypicking is advised when looking for your ideal coin, but Philadelphia was known for their excellent craftsmanship. The 1932 Wheat Penny would make a great addition to any Wheat Penny series collection.
