1927 Indian Head Gold Coin

The 1927 Indian Head Gold Coin had a total mintage of 388,000 coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This coin is comparable to the rarity of the 1926 Indian Head Coin meaning both are relatively easy to find in most grades up to about Mint State 65. Anything above MS65 seems to drop off dramatically, as is common with most of the coins in the series. Finding superb examples of the 1927 Indian Head Quarter Eagle is possible, but viewed as virtually impossible. 

 

History of the 1927 Indian Head Quarter Eagle

It was common for the later issues of the 1927 Indian Head Quarter Eagle to be sharply struck with great overall eye appeal. The coloring of the 1927 Indian Head Gold Coin was similar to the 1926 Quarter Eagle with the possibility of finding coins that are a pale rose gold to a rich greenish gold hue. The highest grades are typically the most appealing as far as luster and color go. The reverse of the coin shows a standing eagle while the obverse features a Native American wearing a headdress surrounded by thirteen stars representing the thirteen colonies.

This is a premium, but still accessible compared to some of the earlier coins in similar grades that commanded over one hundred thousand dollars.
