1927-D Mercury Dime
The 1927-D Mercury Dime had a total mintage of over 4.8 million coins struck at the Denver Mint. This is a relatively small mintage, and unlike some of the other smaller mintages in the series, this one can be difficult to find in the highest Mint State and Full Band grades. Some of the highest grades of the coin in both varieties max out around Mint State 66. It’s possible to find this coin in lower Mint State grades, and is worth the effort to find them and add to this collection.
History of the 1927-D Mercury Dime
The 1927-D Mercury Dime is a valuable coin that commands a higher price even in mid-range Mint State, which is the highest it is typically found. It would reach even higher prices if found above MS66. The Mercury Dime is a popular coin that features a younger version of Lady Liberty on the obverse. She wear a winged cap that symbolizes “liberty of thought.” The reverse of the coin not only features the fasces, an ax, and an olive branch, but also shows the ‘D’ mint mark that adds value to the coin. The Mercury Dime, as well as the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, was designed by Adolph A. Weinman.
1927-D Mercury Dime Value
The 1927-D Mercury Dime value ranges between almost three thousand dollars and thirty-five thousand dollars for the highest grades of the coin available on the market. It’s possible to find this at a more affordable price in circulated and lower Mint State grades. The 1927-D Mercury Dime is worth the effort to find well-struck with attractive surfaces, and would make a great addition to any Mercury Dime series collection.
