1925-S Mercury Dime
The 1925-S Mercury Dime had a smaller mintage of only around 5.8 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. The “S” mint mark, which can be found at the bottom of the reverse of the Mercury Dime, is a popular mark that can bring up the value of these coins, as well as its typically small mintage comparably. The 1925-S Mercury Dime is possible to find in Mint State and Full Band varieties, but can be difficult to locate in Mint State above grade MS64. Any grades above this will command a premium, as does the Full Band version.
History of the 1925-S Mercury Dime
The 1925-S Mercury Dime can be difficult to locate in higher Mint State grades, and is worth the effort to cherrypick to find sharply struck coins with attractive surfaces and a nice luster. The Mercury Dime features Lady Liberty on the obverse of the coin. She wears a winged cap that symbolizes “liberty of thought.” The reverse of the coin features a fasces. When this coin was released many didn’t know what the fasces was which lead to some confusion amongst the public. The coin was designed by Adolph A. Weinman, who also designed the Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
1925-S Mercury Dime Value
The 1925-S Mercury Dime value ranges from around $3,400 for a mid-range Mint State coin to upwards of $74,000 for the highest grades of the Full Band variety that features sharply struck and separated center bands that hold the bundle of rods together on the reverse of the coin. This a more costly coin compared to some of the others in the series, and the 1925-S Mercury Dime would make a treasured addition to any Mercury Dime series collection.
