1925-S Buffalo Nickel

The 1925-S editions of the Buffalo Nickel are considered especially elusive. With a mintage of almost seven million coins, this is a rare and exciting coin for any collector to find. Originally designed in 1913 by famous American sculptor James Earle Fraser, the 1925-S Buffalo nickel features the iconic Buffalo reverse, as well as the Indian Head obverse, and is marked by the small S mint mark at the bottom.

American History in 1925

With the Roaring Twenties well underway in the United States, many changes began to take shape across the country. In 1925, both Texas and Wyoming elected their first Female Governors, and the Chrysler Corporation was founded. F. Scott Fitzgerald published The Great Gatsby, and the first motel in the world was built in San Luis Obispo, California - while New York officially became the largest city in the world. With so many changes in art, culture, entertainment, and travel, it’s no surprise the nickel was a key piece of this time period.

1925-S Buffalo Nickel Value

Like many coins in this series, the 1925-S Buffalo nickel was struck in the lowest numbers at the San Francisco mint, which makes this S-struck Buffalo nickel the stand out coin of that year. When looking at coin value, it's important to take the coin’s condition into consideration, as this coin has been around for almost a century. While the average 1925-S Buffalo nickel will go for around five dollars, an uncirculated coin is valued at six-hundred dollars! Uncirculated coins are noted for their absolute lack of wear and tear, clear engravings, and original shine.
