The 1924-S Standing Liberty Quarter had a total mintage of just over 2.8 million coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. This was a little larger than the key date of the 1923-S Standing Liberty Quarter, but still a relatively small mintage for a coin. It’s possible to find the 1924-S Standing Liberty Quarter in some of the highest Mint State grades, but is much harder to find the Full Head version in any of the highest grades.
History of the 1924-S Standing Liberty Quarter
The 1924-S Standing Liberty Quarter is the perfect coin to cherrypick. It can be difficult to locate higher grades, especially with the Full Head strike, so looking for a coin with sharp details and nice surfaces will be worth the effort. The Standing Liberty Quarter was designed by Herman MacNeil. The obverse of the coin features Lady Liberty holding a shield in one hand and an olive branch in the other while wearing chain mail armor on her body. She stands in some form of gateway that features 13 stars and the words “In God We Trust” dividing the walls. The reverse of the coin features an American Bald Eagle in flight with 13 stars surrounding it.

The 1924-S Standing Liberty Quarter value ranges from $27,000 for a mid-range Full Head version to upwards of $35,000 for the higher Mint State grades of the coin. It’s possible to find this one in circulated grades as well. The 1924-S Standing Liberty Quarter would make a great addition to any Standing Liberty Quarter series, as this is a beautiful coin in a popular series among collectors.
