Imagine the roaring 20s—conservative Prohibition on one end and glitz, glamour, and newfound freedoms on the other. Hollywood and silent films were new and exciting, enamouring the masses. Yet, Hollywood was ripe with scandal. To improve the public's perception of the new and booming film industry, they held the American Historical Revue and Motion Picture Historical Exposition and requested a commemorative coin be struck for the event. The result was the 1923-S Monroe Doctrine Centennial Silver Half Dollar.

Since the exposition fell on the 100th Anniversary of the historical passing of the Monroe Doctrine, it was the perfect subject for the commemorative. Struck in 90% Silver, 300,000 1923-S Monroe Half Dollars were authorized to be minted but only 274,000 were actually struck. The coin features conjoined busts of President James Monroe and his Secretary of State, John Quincy Adams, on the obverse, and two art nouveau style female figures representing North and South America on the reverse. You will receive (1) 1923-S Monroe Doctrine Centennial Silver Half Dollar in Almost Uncirculated (AU) condition. This nearly forgotten silver commemorative coin is an unusual and affordable rarity that is the perfect addition to any collection!

Highlights:

  • 90% Silver Commemorative Half Dollar
  • Collector's quality AU condition
  • Low mintage
