1901-O Barber Dime
The 1901-O Barber Dime had a total mintage of just over 5.6 million coins from the New Orleans Mint. It features the ‘O’ mint mark on the bottom of the reverse of the coin. New Orleans minted coins were popular among collectors, and this one had a decent-sized mintage, making it relatively easy to find both circulated and many grades of Mint State uncirculated coins.
History of the 1901-O Barber Dime
While the 1901-O Barber Dime isn’t exactly a rare coin, it still commands a premium compared to many others in the series. It can be difficult to find this coin in the highest Mint State grades. Strike is typically fairly good, but can show weaknesses on certain parts of the coin so cherrypicking is advised. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.
1901-O Barber Dime Value
The 1901-O Barber Dime value reaches upwards of $6,000 for mid-range Mint State coins. Mint State coins are relatively easy to find until about MS66. To build a more affordable Barber Dime collection, look for nice examples of circulated coins and lower Mint State grades. The 1901-O Barber Dime would make a great addition to any Barber Dime series collection.
