1898-S Morgan Silver Dollar

The 1898-S Morgan Silver Dollar had a total mintage of over 4 million from the San Francisco Mint. These coins were fairly common in circulated and uncirculated grades. Many of the Mint State uncirculated coins were released during the 1920s, and then again in the 1940s and 1950s. Most of the 1898-S uncirculated coins were stored at the San Francisco Mint. By the time the big release happened from 1962 to 1964, most of these Mint State coins were gone.

The 1898-S Morgan Silver Dollar is a great one to cherrypick, as there is a wide range when it comes to quality of craftsmanship. Some of these coins are weakly struck, especially at the center of the obverse, while others are well-struck and attractive overall. Although the 1898-S Morgan Dollar is common in lower Mint grades, it becomes more rare in higher grades and can command a high price tag to go along with that rarity.
