1894 Barber Dime

1894 Barber Dime

The 1894 Barber Dime was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. It had a smaller mintage of just over 1.3 million coins struck. While this coin isn’t considered a key date, it isn’t one of the more common coins in the series. It can be relatively easy to find in circulated grades and many lower Mint State grades. As the 1894 Barber Dime climbs higher in quality, the more difficult it becomes to find.

History of the 1894 Barber Dime

The 1894 Barber Dime is a valuable coin that is worth the effort to find well-struck and with attractive surfaces and toning. While more affordable than some in the series, this coin commands a premium in higher Mint State grades. The Barber Dime is part of the Barber coinage era. Charles Barber also designed the Barber Quarter and the Barber Half Dollar. The design on this coin features a right facing profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse wearing an olive branch crown with a ribbon, and a headband with “LIBERTY” inscribed on it. The reverse of the coin features a wreath of corn, oak and maple leaves, and wheat, and frames the word One Dime.

1894 Barber Dime Value

The 1894 Barber Dime value can reach upwards of $21,000 for some of the higher Mint State grades available on the market. Cherrypicking is advised to ensure a sharply struck coin with more details, although these coins will likely command a higher price. The 1894 Barber Dime would make an excellent addition to any Barber coin series collection.
