The two-cent piece was a short-lived coin with unique circumstances. Two Cent coins were first minted during the Civil War, and were hugely popular due to a coin shortage due to the war. However, once normalcy had returned the usage of the 2 cent coin fell off a cliff. Unsurprisingly, the two cent denomination was discontinued quickly afterwards. A lasting effect of this brief series though was that it was the first coin to ever have the words "In God We Trust" on it! Now, we can't think of any American coinage without it. Once the mint ceased production of the two cent pieces in 1873 and began melting down the coins, their collectibility was solidified. We assembled this set of both 1864 and 1865 Civil War issues of the Two Cent Piece so you can collect physical tokens of one of the most important periods in US history. Add this incredible set of a forgotten US coin series to your collection today!
