Buy WWII: Occupation of Malaya – Set of Nine Japanese Invasion Notes (Billfold) Online

Within 24 hours of attacking Pearl Harbor, Imperial Japan launched a simultaneous invasion of Southeast Asia. The Allied powers, already exhausted from years of war with Nazi Germany, could offer little resistance. British Malaya—modern-day Malaysia—fell quickly, with two British warships sunk on December 10, 1941, and the once-thought-impregnable base at Singapore collapsing by February 1942. Some 25,000 Allied troops surrendered in one of the greatest military defeats in British history, prompting Winston Churchill to call it "the worst disaster" and "largest capitulation" in British military annals.

In its wake, Japan imposed its own economic order. The Japanese Government issued a series of occupation notes for use in Malaya—paper currency that displaced the British Straits Settlements dollar. These so-called JIM (Japanese Invasion Money) notes became the official currency in the occupied territories, serving as both economic instruments and symbols of foreign control.

This historic set includes nine genuine Japanese Invasion notes used in occupied Malaya during the war: the 1 cent, 5 cents, 10 cents, 50 cents, $1, $5, $10, $100, and the extremely rare $1,000 bill—presented in About Uncirculated to Uncirculated condition. The $1,000 note in particular is a standout piece, seldom seen in such excellent condition.
