Proof Silver Eagles were struck at a few different mints over the years. The San Francisco Mint started the series in 1986 and continued to strike Proof Silver eagles until 1992 when the production moved to the Philadelphia Mint. Then in 2001 the Proof Silver Eagles moved to their current home of production at the West Point Mint where they are still minted today. So, Proof Silver Eagles were only struck at the Philadelphia Mint for 8 years!
Silver Eagles from the late 90s are well known for having super low mintages, and with fewer minted it is harder to find them in high grades. This 1996-P Proof Silver Eagle had a mintage of just 500,000 coins. With a perfect PR70 DCAM grade from PCGS, this coin is flawless up to 5x magnification.
This 1996-P Silver Eagle also features the signature of T.D. Rogers, Official Sculptor-Engraver of the U.S. Mint. Only 175 of these 1996-P Proof Silver Eagles exist with his prestigious signature (as of 6/18/25). This is a tiny fraction of the over 3,000 PR70 DCAM proofs that get the standard non signed label from PCGS! Can you believe you can own a 20+ year old Silver Eagle with a prestigious signature for this price? This deal is too good to resist, so be one of the handful of collectors to own this key date Silver Eagle before they're gone for good!
