1946-S Washington Quarter

The 1946-S Washington Quarter is one of the more common coins to find in the highest Mint State grades. This is because it has the second lowest mintage of Washington Quarters from 1940 to 1964, therefore, many of the rolls were saved because it was more sought after. This coin had a little over 4.2 million total mintage from the San Francisco Mint. Today, the coin is more scarce and it is possible to find it in Gem condition and other higher, uncirculated, Mint State grades. 

 

History of the 1946-S Washington Quarter

The 1946-S Washington Quarter was a more sought after coin in the 1940s and 1950s because of its lower mintage. Due to its perceived value, it is easier to find in the present day in Mint State, and it can command a higher price for those in higher grades. The Washington Quarter was designed by John Flanagan to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washington’s birthday. The coin features Washington on the obverse of the coin, and the American Bald Eagle with wings spread wide on the reverse. This is a special coin that would make a valuable addition to any Washington Quarter series collection.
